Engines For Traction

Engines

ABC engines can run on different types of fuel and fuel qualities. Select the fuel type below to find the engine according to your requirements.

Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC) has over 100 years of expertise in developing and manufacturing medium-speed engines for heavy-duty applications.

Our medium-speed engine portfolio for railway applications, with 6- and 8-cylinder inline engines and 12- and 16- cylinder V-engines, covers a power range from 600 kW up to 4,000 kW. ABC engines can run on Diesel, High-Speed Diesel (HSD) and biofuels (vegetable oils).

The characteristic medium-speed engine (600 up to 1000 rpm) and cleverly engineered distribution of the loads ensure a low mechanical deterioration and therefore guarantees a long life of the engine and its components. The total cost of ownership (TCO) of medium-speed engines easily outperforms high-speed engines. This is due to the low fuel and lube oil consumption, the lower frequency of maintenance interventions and general robustness of the medium-speed engine. The benefit is a much lower operating cost.

Our medium-speed engine portfolio for railway applications, with 6- and 8-cylinder inline engines and 12- and 16- cylinder V-engines, covers a power range from 600 kW up to 4,000 kW. These reliable engines are also available in dual fuel configuration, covering a power range up to 2,670 kW.

ABC has years of experience with dual fuel engines. One of the main advantages of a dual fuel engine is that it can run on diesel oil at any time. This ensures the continuity of the engine in case of unavailability of the main fuel for whatever reason.

In the case of dual fuel engines, an air/gas mixture is injected into the cylinders, which is then compressed. A small pilot injection with diesel ensures the ignition. Natural gas (CNG or LNG) is more environmentally-friendly and has one of the main advantages that hardly any soot or sulphur dioxide is released during incineration.

ABC's dual fuel engines have the important advantage that it is a very flexible fuel system where the efficiency increases significantly. The powerful ignition makes it possible to work with different gases of low calorific value and fluctuating ignition characteristics.

Traction alternators

Technology, engineering and fuel flexibility are just some of ABC's strengths. As an open source engine manufacturer, rather than proposing standard solutions, we offer you the advantage of choosing flexible and customized solutions for specific requirements.

ABC can serve as a “one-stop shop” offering, in combination with an ABC engine, different market-leading brands of traction alternators. In case of a repowering project, it is also possible to re-use the existing generator by installing an ABC tailormade connecting flange (intermediate part) between the engine and the existing alternator.

ABC’s primary aim is to achieve complete customer satisfaction. Our sales engineers are looking forward to offering you the best and most economical solution and to meet the technical specifications of your newbuild or repowering project.

Emission compliance

All ABC engines fully comply with UIC II regulations. For more information about our engines, click here. More information regarding the International Union of Railways (UIC), click here.

Our powerful DZC engines comply with Euro IIIA emission standards (NOx, HC, CO and PM), using mechanical fuel injection (without EFI / common rail).

We have chosen the solution consisting of a fuel optimized diesel engine combined with exhaust gas aftertreatment (catalyst + particulate filter). This solution is currently under development.
